The United States Army’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or JROTC, is designed to teach high school students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline.
The Chamblee High School AJROTC program was instituted 18 years ago. It received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards at the 2008 Northview Raider Meet. In 2006, the program was named champion in Dekalb County Drill. In 2008, the program was awarded the status of Honor Unit with Distinction by the U.S. Army. More than 100 cadets are involved in this program, which offers before and after-school activities such as Flag Detail, Color Guard, Raider Team, and Drill Team. The program is commanded by U.S. Army Retired LTC Beverly Jones and U.S. Army Retired ISG Terry Horton.
